Art work and clothes are crafted in and around multiple jungle towns of Ecuador to be transported and sold at local markets and festivals in Wilmington, North Carolina

WHEN?

Rachel Crawford first studied in Quito, Ecuador through Universidad San Francisco de Quito through University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1990. She lived in Ecuador from 1992 - 2005 where she gained acquaintances and resources which allowed her to officially begin the non-profit in 2010.

WHAT & WHY

The Amarun Organization is a non-profit based in Wilmington, NC that works with indigenous artists in the Amazon of Ecuador. These artists make clothing, jewelry, ceramics, and other items that are transported to the US and sold at festivals and markets in Wilmington. The revenue goes back to the artist families in the aspiration of increasing financial stability. Without the worry of purchasing necessities these artists can focus on person goals and desires such as education opportunities for their children.
